Raffaele Viviani
(actor, poet and playwright)
Been Born to Castellammare of Stabia January 9 th 1888, it showed since the first infancy his/her talent, taking part to numerous theatrical comedies. The passion for the theater was transmitted him by his/her/their father (also him named Raffaele), manager of the arena Margherita of Castellammare of Stabia, theater in which the poor men recited "Pulcinelli" of the time. On the edge of the failure, shortly after the birth of Raffaele, however, the family Viviani, because of a tributary sequestration, it was forced to move in Naples, where in 1893, thanks to the recovery of materials of scene escaped the sequestration, they built the theater "Masaniello." The theatrical debut of the Viviani, happened in 1892 to the "New St. Carlino", when "Papilluccio" (this way you/he/she had called child Raffaele) to few more than four years, he exhibited suit of a red fracchettino, beside his/her/their sister Luisella.
The writer and journalist Domenico Rea in a 1991 article published on "The Friday of Republic" the famous Viviani remembered with this breve but concise physical description:
"I saw an only time Viviani to I walk around his/her house of Course Vittorio Emanuele II. It was tall, dry, woody, skin and bones, the dry face, the flat-nosed nose, the flared mouth, the eyes as some cross-eyed ones, the hair ricciuti and woolly. It was elegant in papillon, handkerchief in the small pocket and white and black shoes. It walked with air guappesca, but it was the same a sad and noble plebeian gentleman."
The humble origins of the family Vivianis, strongly marked the life of Raffaele; sacrifices and difficulties were to the agenda, when, the premature disappearance of his/her/their father (Raffaele had as soon as 12 years), increased already subsequently the uncomfortable family conditions, the loss of the fatherly reference, he/she forced the scugnizzo to a forced maturity of head family. Raffaele deprived of the childhood owed believe by circumstance in the activity inherited by his/her/their father. Forced by the sense of the need, he/she succeeded with stubborn determination, to get a rapids artistic growth that he/she saw him/it author of the texts and very often also of the music of his/her comedies. The works of the Viviani, were appreciated in the most important theaters of Italy and big part of Europe. After a bright career, he extinguished March 22 nd 1950, to the 62 year-old age.
